My trusted £2 trick to keep cool at night during a heatwave without spending hundreds on a cooling fan
'Once you try it, you'll wonder why you've never thought of it before'
If anything is to judge by this past weekend then British summer is well and truly here, which also means a few muggy, hot nights ahead. I've found a cheap £2 trick that means I don't have to fork out on a pricey cooling unit.
As we only get about three weeks of hot weather a year (not to be precise) buying an expensive cooling fan or air conditioning tower is unjustified for a lot of consumers, as it'll spend most of the time in a cupboard.
Dyson is a well-known brand for its cooling towers, and Pro Breeze sells portable air coolers but both start from around £200. This is where I turn to Amazon and a cheap £2 product that's become my tried and tested way of staying cool, gone are the days of tossing and turning, and I no longer feel the need to fork out for a fan.
Any brand would work and prices range between £2 and £15 depending on the size, I used the simple KoolPak on Amazon which can be bought for £2.20.
All you need to do is place the gel pack in your freezer for a couple of hours, or in the morning before you set-off to work so that it's ready as soon as you walk back through the door.
Similar design to an ice block, the KoolPak is designed to be kept in the fridge or freezer which cools the inner gel, and can be repeatedly reheated and re-frozen.

Half an hour before you're ready to go to bed, place it under your bedding or pillow, giving you a cool, refreshing bed to get some sleep in. One thing that is a must is to use the cover that comes with the pack, or a towel to stop the pack from making your bedding wet as it defrosts.
They could also be great to wrap in a towel on your legs, pop on your feet or even place on your forehead, whatever keeps you most comfortable. I pop mine behind my neck and is keeps my cooler for longer.
Another thing to do, which I think works great alongside the cool pack, is getting rid of the duvet inner for the night and just sleeping with the cotton cover. If you're like me and have to be covered at night this is one way to do it without being far too hot.
