Vikings make splash trade to keep up with NFC North - Acme Packing Company

Cam Robinson will fill in as Minnesota’s left tackle for the rest of the season
Coming off of a two-game losing skid, the Minnesota Vikings made a move on Tuesday — the week before the NFL’s trade deadline — to lock in a starting left tackle for the remainder of their 2024 season. With Christian Darrisaw, the team’s preferred starting left tackle, now out for the year with a knee injury, the Vikings made the proactive move of trading for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Cam Robinson, who was previously Jacksonville’s starting left tackle.
Robinson didn’t suit up against the Green Bay Packers last week, maybe because the Jaguars knew a trade was on the horizon, as Jacksonville transitioned to former second-round pick Walker Little at the left tackle spot. Robinson is a former first-round pick taken by the Jaguars in the 2027 draft and has started 91 games for the franchise.
Twice, Robinson was franchise-tagged by Jacksonville before finally signing a three-year contract with the team in 2022. He’s now in the final year of his contract, which includes game checks of roughly $1 million per week.
Currently, reports haven’t stated how much the Vikings had to give up to land Robinson, only that Minnesota gave up “draft pick compensation” for the move.
The trade should keep the Vikings, who are coming off of a low point of their season, competitive in the NFC North. At the moment, three of the teams that are 5-2 or better in the NFC are in the North. Despite having a 5-2 record, the Vikings are sitting in the sixth spot in the NFC playoffs if the season were to end today.
With the Green Bay Packers set to face the favored Detroit Lions, though, the Vikings could rise to the top seed in the NFC Wildcard with a Packers loss. Green Bay currently has the seeding edge over the Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles due to record, but the Packers lost to both squads in head-to-head matchups, which is a key tiebreaker.
